I was invited along for a behind the scenes look into a venture from another one of the North East's individuals. This time, it was Joe Meagher, of Flat Caps Coffee. Joe has owned Flat Caps Coffee for a number of years and wishes to expand to be able to give what customers cannot get at the original due some restrictions, without breaking his brand's ethos. I had a chat with Joe about his ideas for an expansion and what it could do for Newcastle, and invite you to have a look at his Kickstarter where you can get involved but also receive some fantastic perks in return!
I love Thai and East Asian food and it's really really easy to cook. I was asked recently
a few months ago what you should get in (fresh, herbs and cupboard) for when you're first starting out experimenting with Thai cooking. Then a few months later, I decided that it would make a very informative and colourful blog post to create a shopping list of east asian staple ingredients that you can get! I hope it inspires a few of you into experimental cooking with healthy and tasty ingredients. See below for a Thai Red Prawn recipe with many of these ingredients that I have used for years, first established from good old Jamie.
On a recent and literal Shop ’til you Drop session, we needed to go somewhere to refuel and I’ve been wanting to try Time Banhmi since it opened. Time Banhmi is a healthy alternative to other sandwich bars on the Newcastle High Streets and offers a small variety of fillings as Vietnamese sandwiches Bánh mì, tofu vegetarian options bánh mì chay or with rice depending how hungry you are! Today, 8th February is Tết, the Vietnamese Lunar New Year and considered as the first day of spring (I’ll go with that!)
The next post about my hometown during Christmas is about Another Place. I’m sure if you’re following my blog, you’ll have roots to either the North West or NewcastleGateshead, so the name ‘Antony Gormley’ might just ring a bell.
Most years after each Christmas or perhaps on New Year’s Day, we head to Crosby beach for a walk to “blow off the cobwebs”. This year marks the 10th anniversary of Another Place which makes it even more nostalgic. View Post
I have been following Ben Brown‘s antics for a while now. If you haven’t already found Ben’s stuff online, he has been posting daily vlogs documenting his life over the past 2 years. He’s based in Southern England but currently spends most of his time in Cape Town, South Africa, one of my dream destinations.
