A KILLER White Chocolate Cake

For the recent murder mystery party, my housemate kindly baked me a murder mystery birthday cake. I've been craving white chocolate and raspberry combinations since my visit to Bealim House (also with my housemate!) and so those were my specs. We then decided to go one step further and really make the ultimate cake that would be a great focal point for any Murder Mystery party.

A DIY Murder Mystery Dinner Party.

The best thing about an idea to have a murder mystery party to celebrate my birthday is that I can bring back one of the best events of the year - in Spring. Halloween. A little party never KILLED anyone...

I bought a murder mystery story online for about £30 but I wanted to still put my own twist on it by doing some DIY projects to make it my own. I always had the impression that murder mysteries could get quite boring with people just sitting around a table, people might not stay in character and it ends up just a Q&A. No. Not on my watch.

I love you like… Chilli (con Carne) and Chocolate

…Plus the Science of the Chilli.

There’s nothing better than curling up all cosy when it’s cold outside…Except I fidget loads and could never just “cosy up”, but just imagine the scene: you’re back home, you’ve kicked your shoes off and there is absolutely nothing that will get you back out again. What can you have to make you even cosier? Cava? (obviously), chocolate? hot chocolate? even hotter chilli con carne? All of the above? We’re entering the danger zone now though, you want some fire in your belly but you want to control the intense sweats, pain on your tongue and runny nose that you would usually get with spicy. A Galentine’s Day Guide to Roller Derby by Pyroclastic Flo.

What better way to celebrate Galentine’s day than have my main gal, Heather, take over KathyAthy.com to tell you all about the fast-growing, female-dominated sport. A canny few years ago, a little roller rink opened up in our home town, we took to roller skating like ducks to water and Heather had an idea to start training for Roller Derby. I was originally up for it, but then developed an irrational fear of smashing my teeth and ‘gave up’. Heather persevered (which I admire) and has found an amazing hobby that she’s passionate about. See her talk about roller derby, it’s history, the rules, the quirks, why it’s fab (including the psychology behind it!) and how to get involved. Be sure to give her and her team some love!

My First Time…Banhmi

On a recent and literal Shop ’til you Drop session, we needed to go somewhere to refuel and I’ve been wanting to try Time Banhmi since it opened. Time Banhmi is a healthy alternative to other sandwich bars on the Newcastle High Streets and offers a small variety of fillings as Vietnamese sandwiches Bánh mì, tofu vegetarian options bánh mì chay or with rice depending how hungry you are! Today, 8th February is Tết, the Vietnamese Lunar New Year and considered as the first day of spring (I’ll go with that!)
