Now this was somewhere I was really excited to visit. I’ve actually never been as it’s fairly new, it’s a part of the group that own the amazing Vermont Hotel and Bar Livello and is located in the prettiest part of Newcastle: The Quayside. Aveika is (yet another) Japanese cuisine restaurant, though I’m not complaining, any food that is Asian or Asian fusion, I’m all over it.

“Dine, Drink, Dance”

When you get in there, you really feel a vibe of a chic and exclusive. The restaurant week menu was Two courses for £15, rather than small dishes to accompany your drinks in Izakaya style. The place seems full of colour changing lights to bring a great atmosphere, unfortunately they were red and orange when we were there – not a blogger’s best friend! The music was also en pointe, subtle but brought it all together. I loved the finer details of the restaurant, the beautiful chandelier, the cherry blossom and even down to the tumblers and chopsticks.

Also, if you are interested in seeing their full menu, you can view it here. Aveika are currently doing 50% off food during January!

I went for the Salmon Nigiri starter and Chloe and Dan had Salt & Pepper Squid and Beef Harumaki. My sushi was really tasty (wasabi avoided, obviously) however I was absolutely ravenous so was eyeing up their warm dishes too, kinda wishing I’d gone for the beef too. No regrets, though.

For mains, Dan and I went for the Chicken Katsu Curry, a failsafe option I know, but sometimes you get it good and others… not so good. Obviously I had to compare it with the ‘winner’ of all Katsu from that Japanese restaurant chain. Chloe had the Salmon Teriyaki and said it would just…. melt.

I think I could speak for the three of us and say the main thing tonight was the staff. They were jolly, constantly on the ball and treated us all like a VIP, I could see a couple of birthdays around the restaurant too, and they ensured they were having a great night. They were bending over backwards to ensure we had an enjoyable night, even offered to change the colour of the lights when I jokingly said that ‘red’ is not blogger-friendly!

The struggle was indeed real to get some good photos, sorry!

It’s restaurant week in NYC as well and I’ve been definitely taking advantage of it! I totally feel you on the bad blogging lighting– maybe I should go out for lunch instead?

Oh wow! Yes deffo! I have no lunches booked for this Blogstaurant week (and my bank will kill me if I start!). I’m off to a Gin Distillery tonight and Im hoping the lighting will be better as I haven’t got any pictures of the outfit for tonight either!
