It was about time I showed you around my pride and joy of my entire house. A true centrepiece to any party and a half-decent conversation topic. My home bar, named "Katie's Taki Bar", a twist on the good old tiki bars. You don't need a fancy cocktail cabinet, antique globe or oak cabinet to have an equally as impressive and functional home bar, maybe you're lacking space, funds or you live in a rented property (like me). Here, I give you, a piece of flat pack and functional furniture that I'm sure every blogger is familiar with, an IKEA BILLY bookcase.
For the recent murder mystery party, my housemate kindly baked me a murder mystery birthday cake. I've been craving white chocolate and raspberry combinations since my visit to Bealim House (also with my housemate!) and so those were my specs. We then decided to go one step further and really make the ultimate cake that would be a great focal point for any Murder Mystery party.
The best thing about an idea to have a murder mystery party to celebrate my birthday is that I can bring back one of the best events of the year - in Spring. Halloween. A little party never KILLED anyone...
I bought a murder mystery story online for about £30 but I wanted to still put my own twist on it by doing some DIY projects to make it my own. I always had the impression that murder mysteries could get quite boring with people just sitting around a table, people might not stay in character and it ends up just a Q&A. No. Not on my watch.
I thought I’d start another mini series on the blog as I try to move forward with a healthier mindset after a few months of stress. I decided one day that I wasn’t going to let stress envelop me and I was going to embrace a healthy balance between life and work. I wouldn’t say “return to my former self”, as I’ve learned a lot and grown from my experiences, but I would like to move towards a healthier and fulfilling lifestyle that my twenties should be. Talking about my stress is hard to write about. Instead of delving into something that could be quite dark and personal, Finding You, for the moment, is about rediscovering my sense of style as a “working metaphor”. The process of sorting out my wardrobe can be concurrent with sorting myself out physically and emotionally behind the scenes, which is on a much bigger scale.
What better way to celebrate Galentine’s day than have my main gal, Heather, take over KathyAthy.com to tell you all about the fast-growing, female-dominated sport. A canny few years ago, a little roller rink opened up in our home town, we took to roller skating like ducks to water and Heather had an idea to start training for Roller Derby. I was originally up for it, but then developed an irrational fear of smashing my teeth and ‘gave up’. Heather persevered (which I admire) and has found an amazing hobby that she’s passionate about. See her talk about roller derby, it’s history, the rules, the quirks, why it’s fab (including the psychology behind it!) and how to get involved. Be sure to give her and her team some love!
