As if this marks the end of #BlogstaurantWeek. 7 days of some of the best restaurants in Newcastle upon Tyne, I now have to go back to cooking and doing the washing up. For the final day, we headed to The Quayside for food at Pitcher & Piano. Pitcher & Piano is the perfect place to sit and enjoy a refreshing glass of wine or pint of lager on a sunny day. I’ve never actually been for food and I thought Restaurant Week would probably be the perfect time to check it out, as well as their ‘new’ refurb.

Roasted Spiced Vegetable Flatbread (v) (1 between 2)
Curried aubergine, peppers, courgette, sweet piquante peppers, yoghurt and mint dressing
Pulled Ham Hock & Blue Cheese Flatbread (1 between 2)
Pear chutney, spring onion and rocket.
Little did we know that the starters would come ‘as a whole’; three dishes on one plank of wood. I’m scuppered to know what they’d do if there were 4 of us? I had the sausages which were nice with the mustard dip. The koftas, which my sister ordered, were a lot different to my Thursday, but more mint-based (from the dip) than in a tomato sauce – a perfect starter. Mam had the marinated chicken wings which were succulent, a finger bowl was probably needed, though!

British Buttermilk Chicken Spicy coated chicken breast, coleslaw and skinny fries
Beer Battered Fish & Chips Mushy peas, grilled lemon and rapeseed mayo tartatre sauce
Gloucester Old Spot Bangers & Mash Spring onion mash, onion gravy and onion rings
Classic Burger Cheddar, burger sauce, lettuce, tomatoes and pickles served in a brioche bun with skin-on chips
The All American Burger Monteray Jack, smoked bacon, American style mustard, pickles and BBQ sauce served in a brioche bun with skin-on chips
Cod Fillet Burger Battered cod fillet, lettuce and rapeseed mayo tartare sauce served in a brioche bun with skin-on chips
Tomato Hummus & Sweetcorn Burger (v) Goat’s cheese rarebit, tomato, lettuce and Russian dressing served in a brioche bun with skin-on chips.
I was going to have the fish and chips, however as my mam ordered that, I wanted to make sure we had a selection of choices to make the most of restaurant week so I had the buttermilk breaded chicken. #BeigeFood. I wish I had the burrito, like Ellie. Every day this restaurant week seems to be me wishing I’d ordered something else after seeing somebody else’s!
Sticky Toffee Pudding (v) Rich sponge, warm toffee sauce and vanilla flavoured ice cream
Rhubarb Creme Brulee (v) Rhubarb, set vanilla custard and burnt sugar
P&P Flourless Brownie (v) Chocolate brownie, salted caramel sauce and vanilla flavoured ice cream
Ice Cream Parlour (v) Three scoops of lovely ice cream
Again, ordering something different to the others’ so that we could all have a taste of each other’s desserts, I ordered the sticky toffee pudding as Ellie ordered the Flourless Chocolate Brownie and my Mam ordered the Rhubarb Creme Brûlée. My Mam is the pro at making Sticky Toffee Pudding, it’s her thing and I very rarely get one at the same standard. I didn’t get to share Our Ellie’s Brownie as she inhaled it all. She almost cried with happiness “happiness in a bowl!” and was the first time that she has had chocolate since Christmas. The little taste I was allowed to have was amazing; my face did light up, as did my mam’s, but perhaps not as much as Wednesday’s dessert! (Although I wasn’t allowed more than a little taste tonight)
